Are Eggs Good For You?

Many people enjoy eggs as part of their breakfast, but are they actually good for you? And how many should you be eating a week? Dr Ray Walley joined us for our weekly medical consultation to discuss the effect eggs can have on our health. Cholesterol is a lipid, which is a fat chemical made in your body, and is present in eggs. There is good and bad cholesterol, and bad cholesterol is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. A study of 30,000 people in the United States found that each additional half egg a day resulted in a 6% increase of cardiovascular disease, and an 8% increased risk of early death. Dr Ray's advice is to consume everything in moderation, and to have your cholesterol checked by your GP. To keep your cholesterol at a low level, you should try to maintain a healthy weight and BMI.
