It’s always difficult for governments when it comes to spending money because everybody has their metaphorical hands out. But it is especially difficult for the current coalition to say no if their coffers are bulging with cash The Exchequer returns published yesterday showed exactly that. The state brought in €7.5 billion in tax receipts last month alone. That was buoyed by much better-than-expected VAT receipts as consumers continue to splurge, despite soaring energy costs and other global economic concerns.
