100 Years Since The 19th Amendment

This year marks 100 years since the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the constitution of the United States of America that guaranteed women’s rights to vote. However, as we know that was not the end of the story. Not only were black women part of the suffragette movement, their activism predated it and was to continue long after; all the way up until the adoption of the Voting Rights Act in 1965 Professor Martha S. Jones new book Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All tells the story of that struggle. She joined Sean to talk about it.
