Not only were black women part of the suffragette movement, their activism predated it and was to continue long after; all the way up until the adoption of the Voting Rights Act in 1965
Professor Martha S. Jones new book Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All tells the story of that struggle. She joined Sean to talk about it.
